INTERVENTION SUPPORT MATERIAL GUIDE(S)

Differentiating experiences, promoting inclusive sport and social participation, are undoubtedly reflected in improving the well-being and quality of life of persons with disabilities.

In this document we insert a set of strategies and methodologies that can be used by professionals, in order to support them in putting inclusion in and through sport in practice, through the understanding of a solid theoretical basis and putting into practice with specific examples mentioned activities.

Don’t forget that…

  • Adaptations can be made using the TREE model: Teaching or Coaching Style; Rules and Regulations; Equipment; Environment;
  • Take into account the skills of practitioners. Value capabilities over disabilities;
  • Value practitioners’ interests, needs and opinions;
  • Promote the variability of experiences and sports success;
  • Participants must have an active voice in their inclusion process. Discover the (im) possibilities and the desires with the athletes!
  • Professionals are always adapting – adapting to the abilities of persons with disabilities is no exception;
  • Be creative and flexible in finding solutions;
  • Guarantee safety conditions when carrying out activities;
  • Always give positive feedback! Motivate them!
  • Share experiences with other professionals, reflect and challenge yourself!

We hope this document will be useful to professionals working in the field of promoting inclusion in and through sport for people with disabilities!
