Sport Participation: Facilitators & Barriers to Participation

Regarding the barriers and facilitators in the field of sports inclusion, of the 19 entities that respond to this question, it turns out that:

  • In the social environment, most of the entities referred the following factors as facilitators: family support, attitudes to inclusion, staff qualifications, policies and others; and most of the entities referred as barriers to funding. Regarding the cultural aspects, the entities mentioned that they can also be a facilitator as a barrier.
  • In the physical environment, most entities referred the following factors as facilitators: facilities, equipment, assistive technologies, marketing and information and others; and most entities referred transport as a barrier.
  • In the personal facts, most of the entities referred the following factors as facilitators: past experience, personality and confidence; and most entities referred demographic and social background as barriers.

Thus, in general, as facilitating factors the following stand out: family support, attitudes to inclusion, staff qualifications, marketing and information and past experience; and as barriers the transport factors and the topics demographics and social background were mentioned.
